Dispatch from the Thoroughbred Makeover: Daisy Fenwick

Daisy Fenwick competed in the Retired Racehorse Project's 2016 Thoroughbred Makeover at the Kentucky Horse Park on October 27-30, and she journaled about her experience with her Makeover horse, Peace Party. The pair finished 14th overall in the Field Hunter division, out of 26 contestants, and 32nd in the Show Jumping division, out of 61 contestants.

Jumpers train at Pimlico to overcome dry summer

They’ve been training horses forever – OK, it only feels like it – at Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course. Training hours involve horses of every age, size, shape and era. Even steeplechasers. Old Hilltop used to card jump races, back when photos were black and white and the jumps were natural brush. Jump racing returned for a bit in more recent times – the track hosted the Joe Aitcheson Stakes two days before the Preakness for several years – then went away again.

On Track Education

During Preakness Stakes week this year, 2,500 people took a backstretch tour at Old Hilltop. More than a hundred of those were from Arlington Middle Elementary School, a Baltimore City public school located within walking distance of Pimlico Race Course.
