Kentucky’s top-ranked third-crop sire of 2012 to Pin Oak Lane

The undefeated multiple Graded Stakes winning-juvenile Rockport Harbor will move from Darley in Kentucky to stand the 2013 breeding season at Pin Oak Lane Farm in New Freedom, Pennsylvania. The fee for the ten-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song has been set at $7,500.

A prodigious sire of winners, Rockport Harbor is the top-ranked Kentucky third-crop sire of 2012 by number of winners with 87. Only one North American third-crop stallion currently ranks ahead of him by number of overall winners. And his overall earnings of 2012 places him in the top five among all third-crop sires, ranking him above the likes of War Front, Congrats and Bluegrass Cat.

Rockport Harbor’s winners this year include the progressive Pataky Kid, winner of the G3 Arlington-Washington Futurity and who finished fourth a solid fourth in the G1 Breeders’ Futurity on October 6. Pataky Kid is one of 11 juvenile winners sired by Rockport Harbor this year.

Dr. William Solomon, who also teams with Darley to stand Offlee Wild at Pin Oak Lane Farm, expressed his excitement about Rockport Harbor when he said, “Rockport Harbor is a perfect fit for our farm and the state of Pennsylvania. He shows time and again that he can get you a very good, very solid runner and he will be in high demand standing at a fee of $7,500.”

Rockport Harbor’s 21 Stakes horses include first-crop star May Day Rose ($391,620), a multiple Graded winner of the G3 Santa Ysabel Stakes at Santa Anita and the G3 Railbird Stakes at Hollywood, as well as multiple 2012 Stakes winner Heidi Maria. Multiple Stakes winner Banner Bill, from Rockport Harbor’s second crop, showed his mettle last year as an undefeated two-year-old, winning two added-money events at Woodbine, with the aforementioned Pataky Kid the torch bearer in a talented third crop of juveniles in 2012. His runners have earned a collective $8.2 million dollars.

Rockport Harbor is by Unbridled’s Song, and is out of Stakes winner Regal Miss Copelan. At two, Rockport Harbor was undefeated in four starts, including the G2 Remsen and G3 Nashua. His combined winning margin during his two-year-old season was a phenomenal 22 lengths. A racing injury caused by another horse precluded his involvement in the classic races as a three-year-old, but he returned at four to win the G3 Essex Stakes.
