The deadline for nominating a stallion to the Maryland Million program is now Jan. 31, 2013. Maryland stallions must pay a fee equal to their 2013 stud fee (with a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $20,000) to make foals who are conceived in the 2013 breeding season eligible for the program.

“Since the December deadline came at a busy time at the end of the year, the new nomination deadline is January 31st,” says Cricket Goodall, executive director. “It is our hope that every foal by every Maryland stallion will be eligible for the Maryland Million program.”

For a stallion’s foals to be eligible, the stallion must be nominated. Starting with the breeding season of 2008 (foals of 2009), there is no longer an additional fee to nominate foals, thus all foals by Maryland Million nominated stallions are certified to run in the program.

The Maryland Million program was modeled on the Breeders’ Cup, and Jim McKay Maryland Million Day is
now celebrated as “Maryland’s Day at the Races.”
With over $1 million in purses and awards paid annually, nearly $30 million had been paid since its launch in 1986.

For nomination information, contact the Maryland Million office at (410) 252-2100 or visit www.marylandmillion.com.
