Sgt. Reckless Memorial Dedication

The unveiling of the Sgt. Reckless Memorial Statue will be held Friday, July 26, from 12:45 to 3 p.m. as part of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War armistice at Quantico, Va.

It will be quite the celebration, with several Korean War veterans attending who served with Reckless, including Harold Wadley, quoted in our award-winning March 2012 story, A Real War Horse, by Kay Coyte.

Marines who knew Reckless from Camp Pendleton also are attending. A quintet of the Marine Brass Band will be there, as well as an honorary color guard, and, most important, the occasion will be overseen by USMC Commandant Gen. James Amos.  The Marines organizing the statue unveiling — and an opening of an exhibit within the museum — are calling it Operation Reckless.
