Brooke Bowman, DVM, and Louis Merryman today announce the formation of Heritage Stallions, a new thoroughbred stallion facility, to be operated on property formerly part of the original Windfields Farm. Both Dr. Bowman and Mr. Merryman share a rich history in the Maryland breeding world. Dr. Bowman, for several years an attending veterinarian at several breeding establishments, is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Bowman, the leading breeders in the State for several recent years. Mr. Merryman, formerly general manager of Northview Stallion Station, is from a family of several generations of leading Maryland breeders, owners and trainers.

“We chose the name Heritage Stallions to reflect not only our family heritages, but the historic heritage of Maryland thoroughbred breeding. With the recently adopted significant enhancements for Maryland breeders and the lucrative racing opportunities available at Maryland race tracks, we believe Heritage Stallions is the beginning of a new legacy” said Dr. Bowman and Mr. Merryman.
The initial roster of stallions will reflect the confidence and excitement generated by these significant enhancements and opportunities. Mr. Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs is retiring the multiple graded stakes winner, Hunters Bay, a winner of more than $600,000, to stand at Heritage. A son of Horse of the Year and Champion, Ghostzapper, out of the multiple graded stakes winning Smoke Glacken mare, Smok’n Frolic, Hunters Bay was a multiple grade 3 winner and placed 2nd to Horse of the Year, Wise Dan, in the grade 1 Woodbine Mile.
Adena Springs will also be relocating to Heritage Stallions the Kentucky Derby winner and grade 1 sire, Giacamo, as well as graded stakes winner Plan, a son of Storm Cat out of multiple grade 1 winner, Spain, and multiple grade 1 winner Showing Up.
In addition, Mr. R. Larry Johnson will be relocating Street Magician, his graded stakes son of Street Cry, whose first crop of 2 year olds, numbering the 2nd largest crop of any Maryland based stallions, will race in 2014. Mr., Johnson is also retiring his graded stakes winning son of Speightstown, Despite the Odds, to stand his first season in 2014 at Heritage.

The stallions will be available for inspection in December. The stud fees for the stallions are:
