TIMONIUM, MD - 2/17/2012 - The 27th running of the Jim McKay Maryland Million Day is set to run on October 6, 2012 as the marquee event of the fall racing season at Laurel Park, with purses and awards of more than $1 million.
After attending the first Breeders' Cup in 1984, legendary sports caster Jim McKay envisioned a day of racing to showcase the pride and class of Maryland's Thoroughbred industry.
"Jim McKay was proud to call Maryland home, and he loved horse racing here", said executive director Cricket Goodall, "Maryland Million Day was, and is the ultimate showcase for those two passions."
The Maryland Million program reveres Maryland's Thoroughbred history, and is a key component in its' future. With a festival-like atmosphere that welcomes fans of all ages, Jim McKay Maryland Million Day is a salute to the stallions and the many people who support Maryland's horse industry.
