D. D. Withers created it, Colonel William P. Thompson had great plans for it, legendary Hall of Fame horseman James G. Rowe Sr. utilized it, and Harry Payne Whitney preserved it. For more than half a century, Brookdale Farm was the base of operation for some of the most powerful stables in the world.
Now, Thompson Park-the former Brookdale Farm-stands as a glorious link to New Jersey's golden age in Thoroughbred racing history. Read about the rich legacy of Brookdale Farm in Cindy Deubler's "Brookdale Memories" in the September issue, and enjoy the bonus photo gallery above.
Thanks to the Monmouth County park system for usage of its photographs.
