 Looking Back

This month in mid-atlantic thoroughbred history! For Looking Back archives click here.

Bright View Farm in Chesterfield, N.J., founded in 1975 by Philadelphia businessman and manufacturer John Connelly, and run by his daughter Christine Connelly, was one of the last remaining Thoroughbred nurseries in the state to breed for racing and the auction ring. "When John Connelly first purchased the 275 acres, part of the state's 'inner coastal plain,' a geographic area that contains some of the world's most fertile soils, he knew he had found an ideal place to raise horses," wrote Linda Dougherty.

Honored several times by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association as New Jersey's Breeder of the Year, Bright View Farm had numerous standouts over the decades, including graded stakes winner Wistful and top sprinter Just Smashing. Among Wistful's descendants was champion sprinter Lost In the Fog.

Bright View is co-breeder of multiple Grade 1 winner and $1.8 million earner Book'em Danno, one of the nation's top sprinters of 2025.
n Fasig-Tipton Midlantic was gearing up for the 2016 sales season and highlighted a few recent graduates of the Timonium sales, including 2015 Grade 1 winners Stellar Wind, Dortmund and Materiality.

New Jersey resident Peter Kazamias, an owner, breeder and sometimes trainer, had a banner Thanksgiving Weekend as the breeder of two first-time stakes winners. His homebred Behrnik's Bank won the Blue Mountain Juvenile Fillies for Pennsylvania-breds at Penn National and New Jersey-bred Green Gratto sped to victory in Aqueduct's Fall Highweight Handicap-G3
